Vodafone and Orange set for Amazon Prime Video in Spain
Vodafone and Orange’s Spanish units are both set to incorporate Amazon Prime Video into their offerings.
Vodafone today announced a deal that will see it become the first Spanish operator to commercialise Amazon’s voice assistants Echo and Echo Dot as part of its smart home portfolio.
Vodafone director of products and innovation Blanca Echániz also told Spanish press that the company had been working with Amazon for some time and that it would add Amazon Prime Video in the near future, without giving more details.
Vodafone is offering Amazon’s voice assistants as part its V-home smart home offering. Thanks to Samsung’s SmartThings skill, integrated in the Amazon Alexa app, customer will be able to use voice to control V-Home devices. Customers will also be able to use voice control to make purchases on Amazon Prime.
Orange had earlier confirmed that it aimed to become the first Spanish operator to integrate Prime Video during a presentation of its launch of a new Android TV set-top, the addition of new Spanish film SVOD offering FlixOlé and the introduction of new packages.
Vodafone struck an exclusive partnership with Netflix at the time of the latter’s launch in Spain, with the SVOD player signing up with other ISPs including Telefónica and Euskaltel as well as Orange. Vodafone subsequently struck a similar exclusive deal with HBO at the time of the latter’s launch of a dedicated Spanish service.
The telco has not specified when it will add Amazon Prime Video to its TV service, or how exactly it will be integrated.
According to data from markets regulator the CNMC, Amazon Prime Video was present in 566,000 Spanish homes at the end of last year, all via subscriptions to the Amazon Prime retail offering.
