SVOD revenues tipped to reach US$35bn this year
Global subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) revenues are due to reach US$35.04 billion this year, according to new stats from Digital TV Research.
The report covers 138 countries and estimates that the SVOD revenues will climb by US$10 billion compared to 2017 and will more than triple compared to 2015.
In terms of subscriber numbers, Digital TV Research expects there to be 474 million SVOD subscriptions globally by the end of the year – up by 108 million compared to 2017 and by 304 from the end of 2015.
“No surprises that the US is the top earning country. However, its influence is diminishing as other countries start to catch up,” said Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research.
“The US contributed 56% of the global revenues in 2015, but this proportion will fall to 48% in 2018. Despite this, the US will add more than US$10 billion in revenues over this period.”
