HbbTV and DVB partner on DASH validation tool

The HbbTV Association has partnered with the DVB industry consortium to compile a DASH validation tool.

The tool checks ISO/IEC 23009-1 MPEG-DASH media presentation descriptions and segments to ensure conformance with DASH-related specifications from DVB and HbbTV.

HbbTV Association chair, Vincent Grivet, said that validation tool “will help application developers and content providers verify that their services are compliant with the HbbTV/DVB DASH profiles, enabling them to offer compelling hybrid services that enhance the viewer experience.”

DVB chair, Peter MacAvock, said: “DVB and HbbTV have a close relationship and common membership, making this the perfect partnership. Content delivery is becoming increasingly complex. Working together, we are bringing simplicity to content conformance for DASH-delivered streams.

The HbbTV Association is a global initiative dedicated to providing an open standard for the delivery of broadcast and broadband services through connected TVs and set-top boxes.

DVB is an industry-led consortium that includes broadcasters, manufacturers, network operators, software developers and regulators, which designs open interoperable technical specifications for the global delivery of digital media and broadcast services.

DVB-DASH defines the delivery of live and on-demand TV content over the open internet via HTTP adaptive streaming. It is referenced in the HbbTV specifications, which means that many devices in the market currently support this profile.
