Vodafone in Spain has had a partnership agreement with HBO since it launched a dedicated Spanish service in 2016, making Vodafone the exclusive distribution partner for its subscription offering.
Vodafone TV director Ignacio García-Legaz said that the deal extended the reach of HBO España to a greater number of customers and strengthened Vodafone’s movies and series offering by adding the most complete catalogue in these genres to its service.
Vodafone has been under some pressure in Spain of late since its decision not to license premium football content from Telefónica, leaving the way open for the latter and for Orange España to target its base with attractive offers.
Separately, Vodafone España president Francisco Román is to leave the company at the end of the year, with CEO António Coimbra to take over the role of president in addition to his existing position.
Román joined Vodafone in 2002 following the latter’s acquisition of Airtel Móvil, for which he had earlier served as director of technology. He became CEO of Vodafone in Spain in 2003, subsequently taking over the role of president of the company and its foundation.
“Paco Román is an example for all of us that are part of Vodafone España, has been a key individual in the development of our company in Spain and is a model of our culture and values,” said Coimbra.
