AirTies to launch WiFi solution for RDK devices in 2019

AirTies is set to make its managed WiFi solution available for devices running the RDK software platform in the first quarter of 2019.

The company, which provides managed WiFi Mesh solutions to service providers, also said that an that an as-yet unnamed Tier 1 operator is due to deploy AirTies’ software on RDK-based customer premises equipment in the coming year.

“Operators want greater standardisation and transparency, and RDK provides core technical functionality to make that easier,” said Philippe Alcaras, CEO of AirTies. “With this forthcoming integration, operators using RDK will easily be able to deploy AirTies’ Managed Wi-Fi Mesh software on their broadband CPE.”

RDK Management president and general manager, Steve Heeb, said: “AirTies is a recognised global leader for in-home WiFi, and we are delighted that they have committed to making AirTies’ Managed Wi-Fi Mesh software run on the RDK platform for service providers. Since the RDK is an open source software platform for the connected home, improving the home WiFi experience through new applications and analytics is of paramount importance.”

AirTies’ software solution will be deployed on top of the RDK software layer and is designed to improve WiFi performance and proactively manage the in-home WiFi experience. The software is portable across chipset and CPE vendors as a firmware update.
