Report: Walmart partners with MGM for Vudu content

Walmart has partnered with Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), in a deal that will see the film studio create content for its video-on-demand service Vudu, according to Reuters.

The report said that the move is aimed at boosting the Vudu VOD offering but claimed that Walmart will not go toe-to-toe with services like Netflix and Hulu by launching its own subscription on-demand offering.

MGM will create exclusive, family-friendly content that will premiere on the Vudu platform, a Walmart spokesperson told Reuters.

The deal is expected to be formally announced later this week, along with details of the first production that Walmart will license from MGM.
