Lescure quits Lagardère for ‘enhanced role’ with audiovisual sector player

Former Canal+ chief Pierre Lescure has resigned as president of the supervisory board of media conglomerate Lagardère after he said he was taking on “new functions” within the same role with “an important player in the audiovisual sector”.

Lescure’s term as president of Lagardère’s supervisory board was set to last until May next year. The company has named Jamal Benomar to replace him. Benomal, who has UK and Moroccan nationality, has previously served in a number of high-profile international diplomacy positions including special counselor to the UN secretary general and deputy secretary general.

Lescure left Lagardère on Wednesday. His precise new role remains unconfirmed, but it is most likely to be at Mediawan, the independent group backed by producer Pierre-Antoine Capton, Iliad Telecom founder Xavier Niel and Lazard France chief Matthieu Pigasse where Lescure has served as president of the supervisory council for about a year.

Mediawan has stated its ambition to o build “the leading premium content platform in Europe”, combining production and channel distribution following its keystone acquisition of AB Group at the start of last year.

Mediawan posted full year revenues of €115.7 million for 2017 and EBITDA of €25.5 million.
