Canal+ secures exclusive MotoGP rights
Pay TV operator Canal+ has secured exclusive rights to MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 motorsports from next year.
The three motor-racing categories will be included in Canal+’s offering. MotoGP races will be aired on the Canal+ flagship channel while the other competitions will be distributed via Canal’s thematic sports channels.
Canal+ will make the Grand Prix races from each season also available on the C8 free-to-air service, including the Grand Prix de France on the Le Mans circuit.
Canal+ already has rights to other motorsports events including Formula 1, Formula 2, GP3, the Indy Car championship and Formula E.
Canal+ director of sports Thierry Cheleman said the arrival of MotoGP on Canal+ was “excellent news for our subscribers” while Manuel Arroyo, director-general of Dorna Sports, which distributes the rights, said that he was “delighted that [Canal+] is bringing its know-how, linked with the strength of the Vivendi Group, to the Moto world’s championship”.
