Vimeo launches stock video marketplace

Vimeo has launched Vimeo Stock, royalty-free marketplace for high-quality video footage, sourced from the video sharing platform’s community of creators.

Vimeo said it will allow Stock contributors keep 60-70% of revenue generated from their licensed clips, compared to an industry average of 35%, while subscribers to Vimeo’s paid membership plans will save 20% on all stock purchases.

At launch, Vimeo Stock is available in more than 150 countries, seven languages and 29 currencies. Non-exclusive content is priced at US$79 for HD clips and US$199 for 4K clips, while exclusive content is priced at US$299 for HD clips and US$499 for 4K clips.

“Vimeo Stock is the next evolution of our commitment to empower creators to tell exceptional stories,” said Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud, claiming the company she sees a future where standalone stock marketplaces “no longer need to exist”.

“We heard resoundingly from creative professionals, brands and agencies alike that existing stock offerings were not getting the job done. Our goal is to set a new standard for creative footage, put more money in contributor’s pockets, and reduce friction to put better videos out in the world.”

Vimeo said that its Stock product features curated, searchable, high-quality stock clips, as well as new footage from filmmakers, motion graphics artists and technologists. All clips in the collection have been “hand-selected” and are cleared for commercial use and licensed as royalty-free.
