Ukraine moves ahead with digital switchover plan

Ukraine is moving ahead with plans to complete digital switchover at the end of this month.

The country’s move to digital broadcasting began at the end of July, when analogue transmissions were switched off in Kyiv and the Kirovograd region, following a government amendment to the national plan for the use of spectrum resources in June.

The country’s media regulator, the National Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting appealed at the time of equipment distributors to increase the supply of reception equipment across a range of price points to meet the needs of different segments of the country’s population.

The regulator has initiated information campaigns in the Sumy, Vinnytisia, Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, with representatives Larysa Yakubenko, Vadym Mazurik, Lilia Mironovich and Igor Maslov addressing regional conferences attended by local government officials and other stakeholders in the respective regions, as well as disseminating information through regional press.
