Eleven Sports to stream live football on Facebook in Portugal

Eleven Sports claims it will be the first platform to live stream football on social media in Portugal, with the broadcast of the Trophée des Champions match between PSG and Monaco on Facebook this weekend.

Eleven Sports said the move underlines its commitment to engage closely with fans by making premium content more accessible. It comes ahead of the company’s launch in the country on August 15.

“By delivering Ligue 1 games on Facebook we are making history, giving fans a first taste of what they can expect from Eleven Sports and the way we approach live coverage of matches,” said Pedro Pinto, non-executive director or Eleven Sports Portugal.

Eleven Sports’ channels will be distributed in Portugal by operator NOWO and talks with other carriers are ongoing. Eleven also plans to launch an OTT service in the market.

The company has previously used Facebook to stream football and other sports in other countries, including Ligue 1 in Poland, Bundesliga in Belgium, Singapore National Soccer in Singapore, ACB Liga Endesa Basketball across five markets. It also aired Ivy League Football on Twitter in the US.
