KPN adds to IPTV base
Dutch telecom operator KPN added 10,000 IPTV customers to its base in the second quarter. The operator’s overall share of the Dutch TV market remained flat at 32%.
While KPN’s IPTV base rose by 3.9% year-on-year, its digital terrestrial TV base declined by 23% to 225,000, with 23,000 losses in Q2 alone.
The operator, which lost 5,000 broadband customers and 10,000 ‘no frills’ low-cost mobile customers, said it was focusing on the retention of high value customers, with competitive pressure taking its toll on single-play services.
Overall, KPN’s broadband base was up 1% year-on-year to 2.94 million, while its voice base declined by 7.5% to 2.384 million.
Total consumer residential customers stood at 3.499 million, down 2.1%. Households with fixed-only services declined by 9% to 2.2 million, while fixed-mobile converged homes increased by 12% to 1.299 million. The number of homes with bundled residential services was up 1.5% year-on-year to 2.556 million.
ARPU per household increased by 3.9% year-on-year to €43, although post-pad mobile ARPU fell by 1.5% thanks to regulatory changes to €18.
Overall, KPN posted Q2 revenues of €1.4 billion, down 2.6%, and EBITDA of €555 million, up 2.9%.
