BT launches BT Plus fibre and 4G convergence plans

BT has launched its new converged fibre and 4G plan, BT Plus, offering fast connections in and out of the home in a single bill.

BT Plus will give customers ‘superfast’ or ‘ultrafast’ fibre speeds and a free upgrade to the fastest 4G speed available on their network. Ultrafast fibre plans come with a 100Mbps speed guarantee and a 300Mbps average speed, according to BT.

The move comes a week after BT announced it was pivoting its fixed broadband service to become part of a “converged network division” under new consumer business CEO Marc Allera.

BT said BT Plus is the first product to launch as part of its commitment to keep customers connected by bringing together the best of mobile, broadband and WiFi networks through converged products.

BT’s new consumer unit will comprise BT, EE and low-cost broadband service Plusnet.

“We know our customers’ lives revolve around being connected at home and on the go, and that it’s a challenge for families to manage all of their mobile and broadband services,” said Pete Oliver, managing director of BT marketing and sales.

“We’re launching BT Plus to make it easier for our customers to get the best of fibre and 4G to stay connected wherever they are, and our ‘keep connected promise’ means that if ever there’s a problem with your broadband – we’ll use 4G to keep your family connected while we fix it.”

BT Plus is available to new and existing customers with bundle prices starting at £61.99 per-month for a 1GB SIM plan, rising all the way to £178.99 for an 80Gb SIM and ultrafast fibre.

BT said earlier this month that it will be the first UK operator BT is to include Amazon Video as part of its TV offering, and that it will also make Sky’s Now TV available to TV customers from next year.

Meanwhile, a new BT TV app will allow customers to download and play content on the move for the first time and will be available on BT’s set-top boxes and platforms including Samsung Smart TVs, Apple TV and Google Chromecast.
