Netflix unveils raft of European originals
Netflix is set to launch a new string of European originals including a Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) football drama and its first Dutch original.
The Fellowes drama will see Netflix and London and LA-based prodco 42 look at football from a class perspective, featuring both Etonians and factory workers alike.
For its first Dutch series, Netflix will look at the liberal city of Amsterdam and the lives of a group of rich students who accidently open the portal to a demonic world.
The series will be created and produced by Pieter Kuijpers, produced by Sander van Meurs and written by Winchester McFly (Bankier van het Verzet, Lois). It will go into production this year.
“A Dutch original has been on our wishlist for some time now. We are delighted to be working with such a talented group of Dutch creatives,” said Erik Barmack, VP of international original series at Netflix.
“This story is going to be an interesting blend of different genres and we are excited to bring this to our global audience next year.”
In addition, Netflix is set to bring in a supernatural French thriller named Mortal, its third German series The Wave, and a witchcraft series from Italy named Luna Nera
