ProSiebenSat.1 strikes long-term deal with 1&1
German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has struck an agreement to distribute its TV channels on the recently launched IPTV platform of telecom provider 1&1.
ProSiebenSat.1 will distribute its free-to-air and pay TV channels on the 1&1 digital TV service. The agreement covers free channels ProSieben, Sat.1, Kabel Eins, Sixx, Sat.1 Gold, ProSieben Maxx and Kabel Eins Doku as well as pay channels Sat.1 Emotions and Kabel Eins Classics, which are available to 1&1 subscriber on request.
ProSiebenSat.1’s non-linear offerings such as restart TV, cloud recording and HbbTV services will also be available to 1&1 TV customers.
Nicole Agudo Berbel, chief distribution officer and EVP, digital publishing, ProSiebenSat.1 Media, said: “Through the extensive distribution agreement with 1&1, our linear and non-linear offerings are represented in the long term on an additional IPTV platform. In this context, we especially welcome the fact that, for the first time, our HbbTV offerings and thus potentially addressable TV are available via IPTV. This is real added value for 1&1 customers and our viewers.”
Martin Witt, chairman of 1&1 Telecommunication, said: “With 1&1 Digital TV, we provide under our own brand an innovative IPTV offer that is completely cloud-based. We are thus positioning ourselves as a full-service provider for high-quality services from a single source that now include TV in addition to telephone, internet, and wireless communications. Of course, we will consistently continue to develop 1&1 Digital TV and expand the offer with strong content. In ProSiebenSat.1, we found the perfect partner for this. The attractive station offering is a significant added value for our offer, and thus also for our customers.”
1&1 launched its TV service in January, offering a package of channels as part of its DSL50 and DSL100 packages for an additional €9.99 a month. The service is also available via Android and iOS devices via apps, as well as Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV streaming boxes.
