TRT World launches on Freesat
English-language Turkish news service, TRT World, has launched on UK subscription-free satellite TV platform, Freesat.
The channel is available from today in standard and high definition on channel number 215, joining Freesat’s ‘News and Sport’ section.
“We’re very pleased to be the first free-to-air platform to offer TRT World to UK viewers,” said Alistair Thom, managing director of Freesat.
“In coming to Freesat, TRT World joins the likes of CNN and Al-Jazeera in providing our viewers with an international perspective on news and current affairs from both home and abroad.”
Murat Akguc, managing director at TRT World said: “TRT World is strengthening its worldwide position as a global news organisation and this deal will enable us to reach out to UK homes to provide an alternative viewpoint on world events, challenging perceived narratives and providing a much-needed perspective on news.”
TRT World is the international face of Turkish Radio and Television Corporation. It had been broadcasting in the English language since 2015 to communicate a Turkish perspective on current affairs to a global audience.
