Telefonica unveils virtual reality TV project
Telefonica has unveiled a pilot scheme that will allow users to access TV content in virtual reality (VR).
The TV Virtual Experience project was unveiled at Mobile World Congress and lets users watch Movistar+ content on a large 2D screen in either in a private virtual room or with others in a public virtual room.
The prototype app is compatible with the Oculus, Microsoft and Steam VR platforms and allows users to access live Movistar+ channels and on-demand content, as well as 360-degree content.
“This experience constitutes one more step towards the television of the future whereby, as a result of the new technologies, an integral experience will be achieved, enabling users to switch from being passive subjects to interacting with the contents and adapting them to their needs,” said Telefonica in a statement.
