RDK Management and Broadcom partner for set-top box optimisation
RDK Management and semiconductor firm Broadcom have partnered to integrate chipset-level software development kits (SDKs) from Broadcom with RDK’s open source software.
The move is designed to make a common software porting layer to simplify and standardise RDK deployments across set-boxes used around the world by video and broadband service providers.
The companies said that the new approach, which was announced at the RDK Americas Summit, will allow for a more efficient process to keep Broadcom chip SDK versions in sync with RDK versions.
“This new collaboration further strengthens our collective ability to meet the needs of service providers around the globe,” said Steve Heeb, president and general manager of RDK Management.
“By simplifying and streamlining the underlying software, services providers and their CPE (consumer premises equipment) suppliers can focus more of their attention on enhancing customer experiences that drive business results.”
RDK Management is a joint venture between Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable and Liberty Global, created to administer the Reference Design Kit (RDK) software.
