Access specialist InCoax takes enhanced role within MoCA

InCoax Networks has been elevated to Promoter membership status within the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) home networking technology group, and has secured a place on the MoCA board.

InCoax designs, manufactures and markets networking equipment using the MoCA 2.5 Access specification targeting pay TV, Internet service providers and commercial integrators in Europe and Canada.

InCoax had previously been a Contributor member, and has helped generate interest and trials among operator in Europe and North America for MoCA Access.

“InCoax was invited to become a Promoter member because of their contribution to the development of MoCA Access. Their leadership as chair of the MoCA Access Work Group was a significant factor in our Board’s consideration.  InCoax’ knowledge of and deep relationships with operators throughout Europe are of great benefit as we secure trials and adoption of MoCA Access,” said Charlies Cerino, MoCA President.

MoCA last year turned its attention to the network access market with the launch of MoCA Access, pitched as a “fibre extension technology” and as a potential low-cost complement or alternative to DOCSIS 3.1 – or G.Fast – in cases where network operators have fibre-to-the-building in place.

The spec, based on the existing MoCA 2.5 standard, can turn MoCA 2.5 devices into access nodes via a firmware upgrade.

Speaking to DTVE at last year’s ANGA COM, Helge Tianen, chair of the MoCA Access working group and head of product marketing at InCoax, said that MoCA Access could enable smaller operators to provide ultra-fast services without the need for an expensive DOCSIS 3.1 upgrade as well as serving as a 5G backhaul technology and enabling larger operators to more effectively target the business services market.
