German cable operators launch analogue switch-off initiative
Germany’s top cable operators and broadcasters have launched an initiative called Digital Cable (Digitales Kabel) to accompany the final phase of the country’s migration from analogue to digital.
Operators Telekom Deutschland, PΫUR and Vodafone and broadcasters ARD, RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 Media have come together to launch a project office for the analogue switch-off.
They also receive the backing of the Association of German Cable Network Operators (ANGA) and the Association of Private Broadcasting and Telemedia (VPRT).
German cable TV will switch to a purely digital signal this year, following the country’s switch-off of analogue transmission via TV antennas and satellite several years ago.
In Bavaria and Saxony there is a legal requirement to make the switch by the end of 2018. However, other regions are not expected to complete digitisation of the cable network until the beginning of 2019.
