Margot James appointed UK digital minister
Margot James has been appointed the UK’s minister of state for digital, replacing Matt Hancock who was upped to culture secretary earlier this week.
In her new role James, who is the Conservative MP for Stourbridge, will also cover the creative industries. She was previously parliamentary under secretary of state at the department for business, energy and industrial strategy.
She Tweeted yesterday: “An amazing first day and a half as minister for digital and the creative industries, I really appreciate the opportunity and I know I’ve got big shoes to fill.”
Hancock was promoted to secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport as part of prime minister Teresa May’s cabinet reshuffle this week, replacing Karen Bradley who was appointed secretary of state for Northern Ireland.
