Melita taps ADB for RDK rollout in Malta

Maltese cable operator Melita has tapped technology outfit ADB to oversee the commercial launch of its new TV service.

ADB will use its set-top and RDK middleware expertise to help Melita develop a range of new RDK-based services. Melita is deploying the ADB 1750CF HD HEVC STB with Wifi, and four tuners to support its service.

The ADB STB with its RDK 2.x middleware solution enables Melita customers to enjoy a combination of interactive services such as 7 days catch-up, video on demand and recordings in cloud. It also allows multiple recordings at any one time, and the ability to ‘split the screen’ and watch two programmes simultaneously,” said Simon Poljsak, Product Manager at Melita.

Melita has been developing its RDK-based TV advanced TV offering with a view to competing more effectively with IP-based services in the country that often operate without proper content licences, according to Melita CEO Harald Rösch, who told DTVE earlier this year that his company was in talks with a major OTT TV provider to include its offering as part of the service.

Malta’s competition watchdog is currently carrying out an in-depth review of Melita’s proposed merger with Vodafone Malta.
