UPC Switzerland adds Sky Sports app to offering

Liberty Global-owned cable operator UPC Switzerland has integrated the Sky Sport app into its Horizon advanced TV platform.

The move makes UPC the first pay TV operator to integrate the app and adds to the operator’s growing investment in sport as a differentiator with rival Swisscom.

UPC launched its own proprietary sports service MySports tow months, anchored on its exclusive grip on Swiss ice hockey rights.

The operator is now offering Swiss and international ice hockey, the Portuguese Liga NOS, the Bundesliga on Sky and other national and international live sports coverage for CHF25 (€22) a month with the MySports Pro package.

The Sky Sports app on its own is available for CHF19.90. However, UPC is making it available to Horizon TV customers for no extra charge for the first month.

“We want to offer our customers access to services such as Netflix, YouTube or Sky. It is important to us that they do not have to use different devices or screens for this, but can access all apps directly via their Horizon TV platform,” said Anna Gatti, chief marketing, products and digital officer at UPC.
