AwesomenessTV’s Day to lead new Viacom unit
AwesomenessTV’s business chief, Kelly Day, will lead a new digital-focused production unit for US media giant Viacom.
Day has been named president of Viacom Digital Studios, which will focus on creating digital content across Viacom’s portfolio of entertainment channels and brands.
She is leaving youth-focused digital content firm AwesomenessTV, where she was most recently chief business officer and, before that, chief digital officer.
At Viacom Digital Studio, Day will oversee a content strategy focused on branded social channels.
She will work closely with Viacom brands such as Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central to form a united approach to digital content. This ties in with Viacom’s strategy to break down the silo strategy of former CEO Philippe Dauman.
Day will report to current president and chief executive, Bob Bakish, who said: “Kelly has an impressive track record of building successful digital businesses, and I am so pleased to have her on board to accelerate our push into digital-native content.
“She and our new Viacom Digital Studios group will ensure that we are delivering more, better aligned and digital-first experiences, helping us to further grow the reach of our brands with our diverse audiences and introducing more opportunities for our advertising and distribution partners.”
Besides working at NBCUniversal- and Verizon-backed AwesomenessTV, Day was also CEO of Blip Networks, a multi-channel network that Maker Studios acquired.
She also worked at Discovery Communications in a variety of posts, including executive VP and general manager of digital media and commerce.
The new unit goes into operation on November 20.
