DVB names new technical module chief

Jon Piesing

The DVB has named Jon Piesing as the new chairman of its technical module, taking over from Kevin Murray, who has held the position since 2015.

Piesing is director of standardisation for TP Vision, which manufactures Philips TVs for the European and other markets.

He previously held senior positions related to standardization in Philips Research, Philips Applied Technologies and Philips Television.

Piesing started in the DVB with the development of standard middleware MHP in 1996-7 and became chair of the TM-TAM group and later TM-MIS groups that oversaw development of MHP. More recently, he chaired the DASH task force within TM-IPI, the DVB group that specifies technologies for the interface between IP networks and devices, after the previous chair changed company.

Piesing played a major role in facilitating the convergence of the original French and German initiatives that together became HbbTV and is vice-chair of the HbbTV organisation. He has also chaired groups in the UK DTG and the Open IPTV Forum, is on the steering committee of the CTA WAVE project to improve the delivery of commercial video on consumer electronics devices, and was on the executive committee of the Java Community Process during the MHP era.

Kevin Murray’s contribution to DVB has been immense and we look forward to continuing to benefit from his wisdom for some time to come.”
