Roku to power Globe Streamwatch player in the Philippines
Roku will power Globe Telecom’s forthcoming Globe Streamwatch player as part of a ‘Roku Powered’ licensing deal between the Philippines operator and the streaming device maker.
The Globe device will be a Roku Streaming Stick, powered by Roku OS, that the operator will use to curate its video offering – which will include streaming channels and popular streaming players.
Globe plans to launch the Globe Streamwatch player in the Philippines by November this year.
“The collaboration with Roku allows us to give our customers more streaming device choices and a whole new streaming experience all together,” said Martha Sazon, senior vice president for Globe At Home.
Andrew Ferrone, vice president of pay TV at Roku, said: “Globe is one of the leading telecom providers in the Philippines, with millions of cellular and broadband customers. It is a logical next step for Globe to launch a video package and streaming device to its customers to enhance their entertainment experience at home.
“With the Roku Powered licensing program telco operators such as Globe can launch internet-delivered TV services quickly by leveraging our powerful streaming platform.”
Last month Roku licensed its streaming platform to Econet Media for its new over-the-top delivered TV service Kwesé Play, in a similar Roku Powered deal.
