Movistar+ launches on Sony Android-based smart TVs
Spanish pay TV service Movistar+ is now available on Sony smart TVs that use the Android TV operating system, which accounts for the majority of the consumer electronics giant’s sets.
Movistar+ has revamped its app on Sony TVs to offer more content, allowing subscribers to view up to three streams simultaneously in different parts of their home.
Existing customers will have immediate access, while new users will also be access Movistar+ after registering for the service. All content to which users are entitled via their subscription package will be available via Sony Android TV sets.
The pay TV service’s content will be available via a wide range of Sony’s Android 2015, 2016 and 2017 TV sets.
At the MIPCOM event in Cannes this week, Movistar+ business affairs, series and movies original programming chief Ismael Calleja Baldominos, unveiled plans to launch the Telefónica brand’s 4K UHD set-top box commercially next year. Calleja said that Movistar+’s new originals, including Velvet Coleccion and La Zona, will all be filmed in 4K
Separately, Telefónica has teamed up with Latin American development bank CAF to develop infrastructure in Latin America. The pair’s three-year alliance will focus on will focus on the development of digitisation across Latin America, including internet for all.
