Narcos and Netflix tops Italian in-demand digital originals
Netflix’s Colombia-set drug-running drama Narcos is currently far and away the most in-demand digital original in Italy, according to research outfit Parrot Analytics.
Netflix as a whole is currently dominating interest in digital original series in Italy, with Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale taking the only non-Netflix space in the country’s most in-demand top 10 digital originals for the week beginning September 18.
Parrot Analytics analyses the demand for recent popular digital titles across international markets, based on the application of artificial intelligence to expressions of demand across social media, fan sites, peer-to-peer protocols and file-sharing platforms.
Narcos, the third season of which debuted at the beginning of September, attracted 7.6 million demand expressions in Italy the week in question, over three million more than second-ranked Stranger Things, with 4.5 million.
Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which only debuted in Italy at the end of September on the TIMvision platform, took the number three slot with three million demand expressions in the week running up to its airing.
The other titles in the top 10 – all Netflix originals – were Bojack Horseman, Black Mirror, Orange is the New Black, 13 Reasons Why, House of Cards, Ozark and Gilmore Girls: a Year in Life.
