UPC Austria completes digital switchover
Liberty Global’s Austrian unit has completed the digitization of its network. UPC Austria, which completed its digital switchover in a series of steps starting in spring last year, has now switched off analogue signals in Vienna.
Over the last year, UPC has converted its networks in Lower Austria, Styria, Upper Austria, Tyrol, Carinthia, Vorarlberg and, more recently, Vienna. The company said that the spectrum freed up by the move would be allocated to expand the availability of high-speed broadband.
The move brings UPC’s advanced TV offering, Horizon, including an up-to-date user guide, personal recommendations, apps and the ability to record up to four channels simultaneously to a tranche of new customers. The Horizon service in Austria offers up to 155 TV channels, including 61 HD services.
Gerard Schwanzer, VP of consumer marketing, said that the transition had been completed speedily and without complications.
