Altice passes four-million fibre milestone in Portugal
Altice-owned Portugal Telecom’s (PT) Meo-branded offering has now passed four million homes and businesses with fibre and has launched a series of new multiplay packages with Gigabit speed internet.
PT has set the objective of passing 5.3 million premises by 2020, making fibre close to a universal technology.
The company has launched a Portuguese-designed fibre gateway from Altice Labs which it says offers superior WiFi coverage and speed.
The company has launched four new packages offering double-, triple-, quad- and quintuple-play services with 1Gbps downstream and 200Mbps upstream, starting from €44.99.
The company has launched a new marketing campaign based on the tagline “O Universo é a sua casa”, highlighting Meo’s ability to bring to world to consumers’ homes with fibre. The campaign will encompass TV, radio, social network, point-of-sale and billboard advertising.
Figures released by regulator ANACOM in June showed that fibre had surpassed cable as the leading access technology in Portugal, accounting for 34% of access lines against 33.2% for cable.
