Sky launches pop-up ‘Sky-Fi’ channel

Sky is launching a pop-up channel dedicated to sci-fi movies, to air from September 9 for one month.

The Sky-Fi channel will be available at no extra cost to Sky Cinema customers. The Sky Cinema service costs £10 per month.

The moves aired on the channel will also be available via Sky On Demand and low-cost OTT TV service Now TV. Movies to be aired on the channel include the complete Star Wars series, featuring recent additions The Force Awakens and Rogue One, as well as all 10 Star Trek movies, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Minority Report and The Terminator.

The channel will also show the theatrical version of Blade Runner and a special programme trailing the theatrical release of sequel Blade Runner 2049.

The channel is the latest pop-up initiative from Sky Cinema, which has recently launched temporary channels dedicated to the Oscars, and the Fast and Furious movies. Further channels will be launched around Halloween and Christmas.
