Netflix orders Israeli dramas from Fauda pair
Streaming service Netflix has commissioned a pair of dramas from the Israeli creative team behind Yes thriller Fauda.
The series are a currently untitled drama inspired by a real-life CIA and Mossad operation, while the other is Hit and Run, a political espionage thriller.
Both shows come from Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, who created scripted drama Fauda for Israeli pay TV service Yes. That series plays on Netflix in all territories outside of Israel and France.
The new untitled show has received a straight-to-series order, and will see Raz and Issacharoff executive producing along with Peter Principato, Itay Reiss and Kimberlin Belloni of Principato-Young Entertainment, which this week saw Electus becomes its majority shareholder.
Hit and Run, which is in development, follows a happily married man who becomes embroiled in a political espionage conspiracy after his wife is killed in a hit-and-run incident.
Raz, Issacharoff, Principato, Reiss and Belloni all executive produce, with Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks doing the same.
Netflix’s VP of original content, Cindy Holland, said Raz and Issacharoff were “excellent storytellers”, adding: “We’re drawn to the global vision they have for their projects, each infused with drama, urgency and relevance to our modern era.”
Netflix has also commissioned female wrestling drama GLOW for a second season.
The service localised its offer in Israel earlier this year as part of a wider strategy to tailor its offer to individual markets.
