Telekom Austria sees TV boost
Telekom Austria saw its overall revenue-generating unit numbers boosted by TV during the second quarter, with some TV outperforming broadband in some markets and underperforming it in others.
Telekom Austria had 290,100 pay TV customers in Austria at the end of June, up 5.1% year-on-year. Broadband customers dipped slightly by 0.1% to 1.467 million. Overall fixed revenue-generating units fell by 2.2% to 3.435 million.
In Bulgaria, where Telekom Austria owns local cable leader Blizoo, pay TV customers numbered 479,800, up 1.9%, boosted by the launch of an exclusive sport package, and broadband customers numbered 428,800, up 1.5%. Overall RGU numbers were however hit by a 29.2% decline in fixed-voice customers to 93,400.
In Croatia, where the telco owns local cable player Vipnet, pay TV customers numbered 209,000, up 6%, with broadband and fixed voice customers both rising significantly, by 16.4% and 14.4% to 256,400 and 201,900 respectively.
In Belarus, where Telekom Austria acquired Altant Telekom last year, pay TV subscribers numbered 158,000, up 10,000 on the previous quarter. Broadband customers numbered 140,200.
In Slovenia, Telekom Austria’s local subsidiary grew its TV base by 12.1% year-on-year to reach 54,100, helping boost overall RGU numbers by 3.8% despite flat broadband numbers. In Macedonia, on the other hand, pay TV numbers dipped slightly by 1.5% to 122,700, while broadband subscribers grew.
Telekom Austria posted overall revenues of €1.083 billion for the quarter up 4%, while EBITDA rose by 7.8% to €359.3 million, boosted by growth in Belarus, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia and Macedonia.
