Hulu launches live TV service on Amazon Fire TV

Hulu has rolled out its recently-launched live TV streaming service on Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire TV Stick devices in the US.

Hulu first introduced a new Hulu user experience and the beta of Hulu with Live TV in the US in May across five platforms – Apple TV, Xbox One, iOS and Android mobile devices, and Chromecast.

“Focusing on a handful of devices allowed us to learn a lot from our viewers on those devices and make many improvements over the past few weeks. Now, we’re excited to bring the brand-new Hulu to even more TV fans,” said Hulu head of product, Richard Irving.

Hulu viewers who watch on Amazon’s Fire TV streaming devices will now be upgraded to the revamped user interface and will have the option to subscribe to the Hulu with Live TV.

The new interface will let Hulu Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick users personalize their experience by creating a personal profile and picking favourite shows and networks, which will help Hulu offer recommendations.

Subscribers to Hulu’s live TV service can access live and on-demand programming from more than 50 sports, news, entertainment and kids channels – plus Hulu’s premium streaming library with limited commercials – for US$39.99 (€36.60) per month.

This includes 50 hours of Cloud DVR recording storage and up to six individual profiles and two simultaneous streams per account.

Users can also opt to upgrade to an ‘enhanced Cloud DVR’ to get 200 hours of recording storage, or pay extra to access ‘Unlimited Screens’ in the home and three outside the home. These cost an extra US$14.99 per-month each or US$19.99 together.

The Hulu app on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick will automatically upgrade to the new Hulu experience through an over-the-air update.
