No FTA matches as Mediapro secures Champions League rights
Spanish free and pay TV broadcaster Mediapro has secured exclusive rights to the Champions League and Europa League football competitions for the next three seasons, and has confirmed that no matches from the Champions League tournament will be available in the country free-to-air from next season.
Mediapro will make all matches available on the BeIN Sports pay TV channel it operates in the country. The decision means that Tuesday evening matches that hitherto have been available free-to-view will disappear from the free-to-air schedule.
Spanish viewers who sign up to pay will however have more choice than before, as the timing of Champions League game swill be staggered, with some matches kicking off at 19:00 and others at 21:00, in place of the single 20:45 slot for all matches that has been scheduled until now.
BeIN Sports is available via the TV offerings of Telefónica’s Movistar+, Vodafone, Orange, Telecable and Deion Comunicaciones as well as via the web – behind a paywall – on BeIN Connect and YouTube.
