Film1 to replace Sundance channel with on-demand offering
Dutch channel group Film1 has announced plans to replace its Film1 Sundance channel with an on-demand channel on the Ziggo platform.
Sony Pictures Television-owned Film1 said the on-demand channel will launch on Ziggo on August 31, taking channel slot 105 on the EPG, and responds to changing viewing habits.
After this date, some of the movies and films that previously appeared on the Film1 Sundance channel will be aired across Film1’s four other linear channels – Film1 Premiere, Film1 Drama, Film1 Family of Film1 Action.
Film1 said that following the Ziggo launch it hopes to launch the on-demand TV channel via other operators.
SPT agreed to buy Film1 from Liberty Global in 2015, taking over five Film1-branded pay TV channels as well as the Film1 Go digital service.
Liberty agreed to sell its Film1 channels in the Netherlands as a condition of its buyout of Dutch cable operator Ziggo, which was cleared by the European Commission in October 2014.
