Boxer launches broadband in Skellefteå

Swedish TV operator Boxer has launched a broadband service in the city of Skellefteå in the northern part of the country.

Boxer is launching its broadband offering in partnership with Skellefteå Kraft Fibernät, which operates an open cable network, Skekraft.net, in the industrial city. Boxer said its broadband offering would be available to both multiple and single dwelling units in Skellefteå.

CEO Jonas Lönnquist said that Boxer had the aim of offering a simple, reliable broadband service that fitted the needs of users, “just like our TV service”.

Anders Pettersson, CEO of Skellefteå Kraft Fibernät, said that his company was pleased that a major player such as Boxer had chosen to be a service provider on its open network, giving customers “greater freedom of choice”.

Com Hem, which acquired Boxer last year, said in January that it planned to increase the profitability of Boxer’s TV base by offering fibre broadband services under the Boxer brand.

Com Hem said at the time that it planned to use the Boxer brand to make more inroads into the single dwelling unit market, outside its own expansion programme.
