Unitymedia confirms timetable for analogue switch-off
Liberty Global’s German cable operator Unitymedia confirmed this week that it would shut down analogue services across its networks in five phases in June.
Unitymedia held a workshop in Frankfurt this week to answer questions on the switchover process.
The move follows a pilot project in Hanau. Unitymedia will shout down analogue services beginning in the southern part of Baden-Württemberg on June 1, following with a shut-down of services in the northern part of the state on June 6.
Hesse customers will receive digital services only from June 13.
The fourth phase of the process will see digital switchover happen in Unitymedia’s network in the southern part of North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, on June 20. Finally, the northern part of North-Rhine Westphalia will complete the process on June 27.
Unitymedia will publicise the change widely with campaigns in its own stores as well as Saturn and Media Markt retail outlets, ECE shopping centres and local electrical outlets.
