New chief for Rostelecom
Russian service provider Rostelecom has named Mikhail Oseevsky as president of the company, replacing Sergei Kalugin.
Oseevsky has been appointed to head the company for a five-year term, replacing Kalugin, who has served as Rostelecom chief since March 2013.
Under Kalugin, Rostelecom has undergone a major programme of investing in optical networks and building out broadband. The number of fibre broadband subscribers grew by a factor of 2.4, while the number of IPTV customers grew 2.7 times. The company is the largest operator in the country in both segments, claiming a 38% share of the broadband market and a 70% share of he IPTV market.
Oseevsky, a graduate of the M I Kalinin Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, was most recently deputy chairman of the VTB Bank, having previously served as deputy minister of economic development in the Russian government.
