New director-general for Croatia’s HRT
Croatia’s parliament has named Kazimir Bacic as the new director-general of public broadcaster HRT.
Bacic was previously head of technology at HRT. He began working for the organisation in 1984 and has served in a variety of roles including assistant director-general for development and technology. He is also a member of the EBU’s technical committee.
He was nominated by the parliament’s Committee for Information and Technology, with 90 votes for and 12 abstentions.
The choice of Bacic follows a period of political bargaining over who would head up Croatia’s pubcaster. HRT is also under pressure to restructure and rationalise its operations, amid calls for a reduction in the licence fee levied to pensioners and the less well-off.
The parliament named Blago Markota as acting director-general in November last year, pending the appointment of a permanent chief.
