Cosmote TV passes half million milestone
Deutsche Telekom-owned Greek telco OTE’s Cosmote TV service has passed the 500,000 subscriber mark, according to the operator.
The milestone follows a year of development of its satellite and IPTV service for the operator. OTE combined its satellite and IPTV activities under the Cosmote TV brand in November, and launched a hybrid offering, enabling satellite TV users to access catch-up TV and view programming on-demand. It also introduced the ability to record shows on an external hard drive and launched a mobile TV offering, Cosmote TV Go, enabling viewers to access content via smartphones, tablets and laptops.
According to OTE, over 250,000 customers have now migrated to the hybrid offering.
Cosmote TV offers about 90 digital channels including 32 in HD. The operator has deals in place with Hollywood majors including Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, NBCUniversal and MGM.
The service also recently added a new own-branded history channel, Cosmote History, to its offering, which it says is the only Greek TV channel focusing on the country’s history and culture.
“In 2016, a challenging year, Cosmote TV sustained its growth. With an already strong portfolio, we continued investing in new content and introduced cutting-edge technology services, responding to our subscribers’ need for personalized TV services. In 2017, as the market matures, we will keep our focus on new services and customer experience,” said Cosomote TV executive director Dimitris Michalakis.
