Netflix adds new download option for Android

Netflix is now letting Android users download programmes to their device’s SD card, offering expanded offline viewing options.

The update, which is included in the latest version of the Netflix Android app, lets users select a ‘download location’ as part of their app settings.

This means viewers can control where they save downloaded content for viewing on-the-go, giving them the choice between internal storage or SD card for the first time.

Netflix introduced the ability to download content, at no extra cost, to watch offline, in December. The new feature is included in all plans and available for phones and tablets on Android and iOS.

Adding download capability helps Netflix match the functionality of rival services such as Amazon Prime, which already permits downloading, as well as many over-the-air broadcasters’ and pay TV service providers’ online video services.
