Sony first to launch on new YouView with Kids catch-up offering
Sony has become the first media group to launch a catch-up service on the newly revamped YouView hybrid IP and digital-terrestrial TV service in the UK, with an offering debuting today based on its portfolio of kids channels.
Sony Kids offers catch-up content from its three UK kids services, Pop, Tiny Pop and Kix via a single interface that provides atch up, scroll back and search functionality.
The service is free across all YouView connected devices including those in BT TV and TalkTalk TV homes, and is aimed at boys and girls aged four to 10 years old.
Kids will be able to use the service to access content including Power Rangers Dino Super Charge!, Lego Friends, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Angry Birds on-demand.
Kate Marsh, EVP Western Europe said: “We are very excited to launch the Sony Kids player on YouView enabling children and families to catch up on our great content, whenever they want it.”
David Faulkner, head of corporate and business development, YouView said: “Sony Kids is a great addition to our already strong line up of Players and Apps. We strive to offer content for all ages as well as families and Sony Kids helps to grow our offering.”
YouView unveiled its new platform in November, following an extensive beta trial. YouView CEO Richard Halton said at the time of the launch that “a pipeline of new content partners” would be brought on board over the next few months.
