Vimeo ‘rebuilds TV experience’ with new apps
Vimeo has introduced what it described as a “complete rebuild of the Vimeo TV experience” with new apps for Apple tvOS, Android TV, and Samsung Smart TV.
The new apps include Vimeo’s first HTML5-based TV app for the Tizen operating system, which is used by Samsung.
The new apps include a number of features, including: a ‘curated cinema experience’ of videos, updated daily and chosen by Vimeo’s in-house editorial team; auto-play functionality; and a customised video feed that contains the people, categories and channels that a user follows.
Also featured is a library that lets users access their entire collection of purchased videos from Vimeo On Demand, as well as content marked as ‘Watch Later’.
“We’ve built brand new native experiences for Apple TV and Android TV, and are introducing our first-ever HTML5-based TV app to provide the best possible viewing experience and promote greater content discovery,” said Will True, senior product manager, TV apps at Vimeo. “We want people to know they can launch the app, lean back onto the couch, and have something incredible start playing right away without having to hunt for it.”
The new Apple tvOS and Android TV apps are available now. Android TV launches with limited features and a phased roll out, while the Samsung Smart TV app will launch in the coming weeks.
