Netflix goes live on Liberty’s Horizon platforms in Ireland, Switzerland
Netflix has launched on Liberty Global’s Horizon advanced TV platform in Ireland and Switzerland, following its Horizon debut in the Netherlands last week.
Customers of Liberty-owned Virgin Media in Ireland can now watch Netflix on their TV using their Netflix subscription on Virgin Media’s Horizon TV service, the company said in statement.
UPC customers in Switzerland can also access a Netflix app that can be operated directly on the Horizon HD Recorder, UPC Switzerland announced separately.
Both launches follow Liberty Global’s September-agreed multi-year partnership with Netflix to make the SVOD provider’s content available to its subscribers in 30 countries around the world.
Liberty Global said at the time that it will launch Netflix on its advanced digital TV platforms across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean – starting with the Netherlands.
“We are committed to bringing the best content to our customers, at any time and on any device,” said Eric Tveter, CEO of UPC’s Central Europe Group.
“We are expanding our line-up of TV content with our global Netflix partnership. The fact that we are now able to offer the app on our Horizon HD Recorder is a further step towards realising our vision.”
Paul Farrell, vice-president at Virgin Media Ireland added: “Netflix is even better when you can watch it seamlessly on Virgin Media’s Horizon TV service or you can watch it on any device anytime, anywhere you can get online.”
