Orange Spain secures Netflix deal as Vodafone looks to HBO
Orange España has struck a deal with Netflix to include the OTT SVOD service in its TV offering. Orange is also offering three months’ free access to the global streaming outfit’s content to subscribers of its Cine y Series package.
Orange customers will be able to access the Netflix catalogue in HD quality on up to two devices simultaneously.
The promotional offering runs from November 1. At the end of that period, users can sign up for Netflix for €9.99 a month. The Orange y Cine Series pack costs €7.95 a month and includes 35 entertainment channels and access 3,000 on-demand movies, documentaries, series and kids shows.
Orange’s promotional deal with Netflix follows hard on the expiration of a similar agreement between the SVOD outfit and Vodafone in the country. Under that deal, Vodafone customers with eligible packages could access Netflix free for six months.
According to local press, Orange’s agreement will have a similar level of exclusivity in that other operators will not be able to promote Netflix in a similar way for the duration of the contract between the pair.
The ending of the six-month promotional agreement between Netflix and Vodafone follows the signing of a deal between Vodafone and HBO in May that will see an HBO España service launch on the service provider’s platform. Under that deal, Vodafone customers will be able to access HBO España from their Vodafone TV service and also via mobile devices, tablets and computers.
