New chief for Irish-language broadcaster
Irish-language public broadcaster TG4 has named Alan Esslemont as its new director-general.
Esslemont, who is currently head of content at Scottish Gaelic channel BBC Alba, will take up his role in mid-October. He replaces Pól Ó Gallchóir who has been at the head of the service since April 2000.
Esslemont, who helped create BBC Alba, previoiusly played a role in the re-launching of TnaG as TG4 in 1999, and worked as director of television at the broadcaster from 2000 to 2007.
TG4 currently invests over €20 million annually in original programming.
