Huawei: technology a key driver for business development
Information and communications technology (ICT) is now a “key measure that drives business development,” according to Huawei executive Joe So.
Speaking at Huawei’s Media Industry Forum at IBC last week, So said that as the industry transitions to digital, media groups must use “innovative ICT technology and integrate diverse industry resources to build open, converged news platforms”.
“These platforms must support real-time data sharing and full-time connection – requirements that cloud architectures can perfectly meet,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, IABM CEO, Peter White, said that while the transition to ultra HD is still in its early stages, next-generation technologies such as IP and cloud virtualisation “have the potential to make broadcast organisations more efficient and agile.” The IABM represents manufacturers and suppliers of broadcast and media technology products and services.
Hugo Bastos, project management office director at Spanish technology company VSN said: “In today’s fast-paced environment, broadcast, media and entertainment companies need to assemble the most relevant digital assets as quickly as possible, streamline production costs and increase revenue opportunities.”
At IBC, Huawei signed a memorandum of understanding with VSN that will see the companies offer a joint media asset management (MAM) solution – the core system used for digital media storage and management.
Huawei, which provides a next-generation media information services platform, now claims more than 1,000 customers in the media industry, including France’s TF1, Italy’s Mediaset.
The company provides a private cloud IT platform for TF1 and a storage system to support the delivery of on-demand services to Mediaset. Elsewhere, the company’s IP-based broadcasting solution supports elastic service capacity and Huawei also offers a 4K programme production and broadcasting system.
