Telekom Austria partners with Newtec for EUMETCast upgrade
Telekom Austria Group has partnered with satellite design, development and manufacturing expert Newtec after EUMETSAT ordered an upgrade of EUMETCast.
EUMETCast is the dissemination mechanism for the near real-time delivery of satellite data and products, and the first phases of the project will make an additional 18 MHz of satellite bandwidth available on Eutelsat 10A, located at 10° East.
By mid-2017, this will be upgraded to 36 MHz and made available to all end-users.
As with the current uplink, the additional transponder will be established at Telekom Austria Group’s teleport in Aflenz, with a back-up uplink available at its teleport in the so-called “Vienna Arsenal” area in case of weather influence.
“Newtec’s proven track record of providing technology for EUMETSAT´s EUMETCast service made it an obvious choice when selecting a company to partner with for this project,” said Franz Bader, director of wholesale at Telekom Austria Group.
“By using the Newtec modems, all EUMETCast receiving stations throughout Europe are guaranteed high throughput, as well as high data reliability and quality.”
Lothar Wolf, competence area manager for data services at EUMETSAT said: “The launch of additional weather satellites and increasing metrological data means an upgrade of our EUMETCast service is completely necessary. With Newtec, we are confident we are able to provide the highest quality of service.”
