RTVC takes on Netflix with Play

Colombian pubcaster RTVC has launched Play, an on-demand service offering free access to a raft of content across different genres.

The RTVC Play streaming service, which will compete with paid-for competition from Netflix, can be accessed directly via the RTVC site, or via dedicated Apple and Android apps.

The content on the service can also be accessed outside of Colombia with no geo-blocking in place.

“This launch reflects the responsibility and commitment to provide all our audiences anywhere in the world, the best of our content in a digital platform that facilitates access and to reaffirm our efforts to promote culture and education of Colombian “said John Jairo Ocampo, RTVC’s general manager.

David Moon Sanchez. Colombia’s IT and Communications minister said the international availability of the content will promote the country’s culture internationally.

“This application guarantees easy access for national and international audiences to a portfolio of high quality content, bringing them all to [Colombian] public television,” he said.
